More About David Evan Giles' Work In Film
After reading English at Oxford and completing a film degree in Canada, David moved to Australia in 1988, where he wrote and produced two feature films - Under The Lighthouse Dancing, starring AFI Award winners Jack Thompson and Jacqueline McKenzie and Oscar nominee Naomi Watts, shot on location on Rottnest Island, Western Australia.
David went to on to write the original script and raise a large proportion of the budget for what was to become, at the time, the biggest budget film in Australian history, Paradise Road, starring Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Frances McDormand and Oscar nominees Glenn Close and Pauline Collins, alongside a host of other great actresses, like Golden Globe and Emmy winner, Julianna Margulies .and Australian AFI Award winner Wendy Hughes.
Waiting For The Turning Of The Earth
More recently, David wrote and directed the 23-minute short film, Waiting For The Turning of the Earth. The film was made possible by a rare and prestigious grant from Screen New South Wales under the Emerging Filmmakers Fund scheme. The film stars AFI Award winner Barry Otto (Strictly Ballroom, Bliss, Moulin Rouge, Australia and Baz Luhrmann’s new production of The Great Gatsby), AFI nominee, Anne Louise Lambert (The Draughtsman’s Contract and most unforgettably Picnic At Hanging Rock) and AFI nominee, Rhys Muldoon.
In November 2011, David received a Nomination for an Australian Academy Award (AACTA) for the script of this film.

In 2013, David was honoured by being invited to be a Juror for the Australian Academy Of Cinema & Television Arts Awards and has been a Juror for the Camdenville Film Festival in 2013 and 2014.
He continues to develop stories for film and television between his copywriting assignments. In 2015, he is developing a new feature film and two TV series and is in negotiations to co-produce his bank heist comedy, 58 Sacks of Cash.
As a performance coach, originally David trained in the acting method known as the Chekhov Technique and has adapted this to his own style creating Mind-Body Drama, which he has taught around the world (Canada, Australia, Spain, Singapore and the UK, including giving classes at Oxford University). He was also trained in the Meisner technique by Canada’s best Meisner teacher, the legendary Jacqueline McClintock.
